Got questions? We've got answers.
It's Cedar Rapids Daybreak Rotary's yearly duck race: a community-wide, family-friendly, affordable and fun fundraiser for eastern Iowa organizations that help children and families. The whole thing is run by volunteers.
Click Adopt a Duck on this site and pick a pack. A single duck is $5, and the bigger packs give you more ducks for your dollar.
Nope! When you adopt a duck, you're sponsoring a numbered entry in the race. It's a fun way to give to a great cause, with a chance to win prizes.
We can't give you your tag number because we won't know it until we run the Mix Report right before the race. Numbers are never given out ahead of time so the race stays fair. Rest assured, every duck you adopt has a chance to be a winner.
All proceeds benefit children. In 2026 the race supported Kids First Law Center, the Jon Cushing Sunshine Fund, the Legacy for Learning college scholarship fund and Daybreak Rotary International Projects. Daybreak Rotary's mission is to make a lasting, positive impact on the people of Cedar Rapids who need it most: children and families.
Absolutely! Each duck is its own entry with its own tag number, so every extra duck is another chance to win.
Cedar Rapids Daybreak Rotary will contact you using the information you provided with your duck adoption. Winners are also posted on the race website.
No, you do not need to be present to win.
Yes! Ducks can be adopted on this website on race day until at least one hour before the race starts.
Everyone who adopts a duck, whether online, by mail, at the Downtown Cedar Rapids Farmers' Market or at a sponsoring business, is entered into eQuack, the race database. Next to your name is the number of ducks you adopted. Right before the race, all the tag numbers are shuffled and eQuack assigns your ducks to tag numbers automatically. So if you adopt 5 ducks, your name is placed next to 5 different tag numbers.
